He also forms strong relationships directly with counterparts. In another instance, a critical supplier demanded prepayment while refusing to disclose information. Amit called him and built such a good connection that the supplier insisted on having Amit on all the later communications, agreed to less restrictive terms, and sent him a heartfelt thank you for his assistance after the business was done.
In addition, Amit always takes the initiative to improve the way we work. If policies are lacking, he establishes a system to guide himself and others. If a formal training manual does not exist, he creates it, as he did when he wrote and published an interactive training video that is now used across the company to teach new traders about credit risk.
I worked with Amit Kumar for several years at Louis Dreyfus Commodities in the Credit Risk Department as he was my direct line manager in Credit Risk. I found him to have incredible knowledge in this area from World Finance to Debtor Trends and this was across many different countries and government policies. Amit has a profound manner in being very commonsense in his approach which has proved to be extremely effective in achieving preferred outcomes.
